Kerstine and Christian boarded a ship called "The Monarch of the Sea" on 16 May 1861 and set sail for America.
To get from Denmark to Liverpool, England they probably had to make two voyages, one from their home area to Copenhagen and one from Copenhagen to Liverpool, England. They brought Christian's four year old daughter Caroline by a different mother with them. They arrived in America 19 Jun 1861.
They went cross country from New York City to Nebraska with the other Saints heading to the Great Salt Lake. On 2 July 1861 they were outfitted and prepared for crossing the plains by oxen teams and covered wagons. They were assigned to the John R. Murdock company.
They arrived in Salt Lake City 12 Sep 1861. Only two day, later Kirstine gave birth to her son, Godfred. He was born near the point of the mountain.
July 1865, Christian and Kerstine were sealed in the Endowment house in Salt Lake City. Christian also entered into plural marriage with Caroline Nazer on this same trip to Salt Lake.
In 1867, Christian and his wives and families moved from Gunnison to Coalville. After getting the families settled Christian went back to Gunnison to pick up more of their belongings. While he was away, Kirstine gave birth to twin boys, 7 Jun 1867, as a result of complications, she and the boys died. Christian had been to Gunnison and returned as far as Provo, when he heard of Kirstine's death. In order to make better time, he turned the cows loose that were following at the back of the wagon. However, by the time he had reached Coalville, Kirstine and the boys had already been buried.
Kerstine died 7 Jun 1867 in Coalville, Utah
